Rust is a 4-Star bow that can be obtained via wishes and it has been available in Genshin Impact since its original release with version 1.0 With a %ATK substat as well as a passive that greatly boosts Normal Attack damage at the cost of Charged aimed shots, Rust emphasizes maximizing the potency of your regular attacks. For characters like Fischl, Yoimiya, and Childe, this makes it an especially attractive option for dealing damage.

Appearance
Each weapon has two forms, one when it is initially summoned and another once it has reached a certain level of ascension. Once this occurs, the weapon will undergo a change in its design. Rust has a grounded color scheme of red, silver, and black. It has a single black drawstring with an ornate silver handle.
Non-Ascended
Along the outer rim of the bow it has silver linings and a dormant jewel located in its center that is a light silver.
Ascended
The silver linings along the bow’s rim darken into a very light bronze color. The red found on the bow intensifies in color, The gem in its center begins to glow a golden hue, and the formerly silver handle is now a deep blood red.
Story
An ancient bow, as hard as cast iron, that once belonged to a famed archer.
He once slew monsters and bandits like silvergrass in the wind.
As he pursued mastery in the discipline of archery,
his string sang like unrelenting thunder,
and his arrows shone like sun-soaked iron rain.
In his twilight years, the archer had a revelation.
"The ultimate profundity of speech is the word withheld, and the ultimate profundity in archery is the arrow spared."
Thereafter, he never spoke again of arrows shot out of the sky. Nor did he speak again of the foul monsters slain by iron arrows shot from an iron bow.
He buried his bow in the ground and went to live as a hermit amidst the hills.
Allegedly, the story of his death is as follows:
Every night, as the sound of a plucked string rang out from his home, a ray of brilliant purple light shot forth, and foul monsters dared not approach.
On the night of his death there was a storm. Amidst the howling wind and rain there was but a single clap of thunder. The accompanying bolt of lightning shot upwards, towards the sky, burning bright as the stars in the galaxy.
Trivia
-Tartaglia uses the bow in his initial character demo, although it would later be replaced by his new signature weapon Polar Star
-Rust is tied for the 2nd lowest base ATK for 4 Star bows.
FAQs
Is Rust good?
Rust is relatively narrow in its application. If your character uses charged shots in any way, it is likely not the best option for it. For those who frequently use normal attacks however, it is outright one of the best options in the game.
Who uses Rust the best?
The two best users of Rust are by far Childe and Yoimiya. Thanks to their Elemental Skills they gain a very large benefit from constantly normal attacking, and don’t encounter many downsides since they are rarely encouraged to use their aimed shots unless the encounter absolutely demands it. Fischl is also another user who synergizes with Rust well, especially at high constellations where Oz fires along with every shot .
Is Rust BiS for anyone?
For Yoimiya and Childe it is by far the best 4-Star option available. However, it does lose out to Thundering Pulse for the former and the Polar Star for the latter. At max refine, Rust does manage to stay competitive with both options.
Final Thoughts
Rust is very focused in its usage, being purely for normal attackers. This makes its best cases uses for it very limited, but for those cases it is very potent and a great option. Only if you are lucky enough to have a 5-star bow is it outclassed, and it has the advantage of being significantly easier to refine.
