Manan Vohra is an Indian professional cricketer who has played for the state of Punjab (2011–2018) and the union territory of Chandigarh (2019) across all 3 formats, as a top-order batsman, in the Indian domestic circuit. In the IPL (Indian Premier League), he has turned out for Kings XI Punjab (2013-2017), Royal Challengers Bangalore (2018), and Rajasthan Royals (2019–Present). He had come into the spotlight during the 2014 edition of the IPL where he had scored 324 runs in just 8 matches at a stupendous average of 40.50 and a stellar strike rate of 139.05 to help the Kings XI Punjab top the league stage points table. In the final match of the tournament, the team’s first-ever appearance, he had steadied the ship with a critical knock of 67 runs after the loss of 2 early wickets to help the team reach a formidable score of 199 runs. He had more than repaid the franchise’s faith by his performances as he was just 1 of 2 players, the other being David Miller, who was retained by the Kings XI Punjab franchise before the year’s IPL auction.

Manan Vohra Facts

  • Manan’s paternal grandfather, Yash Pal Vohra, a former international hockey player, was his hero growing up. He loved both hockey and cricket as a child but was unable to pick one over the other to pursue seriously. It was his grandfather, surprisingly, who had encouraged him to choose cricket.
  • A child prodigy, he had represented the state of Punjab at several competitions in his youth and was a part of their under-16, under-19, and under-22 squads. He had even captained the Punjab Under-19 team to the Vinoo Mankad Trophy (the premier limited-overs domestic competition for men’s under-19 cricket in India) title in 2010.
  • He was selected in India’s squad for the 2012 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup but had to withdraw just before the start of the tournament due to a finger injury. India went on to win that tournament, the country’s 3rd such title.
  • After years of indifferent performances in the domestic circuit, since starting his career with Punjab in 2011, he had finally had a big-scoring season in 2019-20, for Chandigarh. in the Ranji Trophy (India’s premier domestic first-class cricket competition), recording 591 runs.
